John Deere Classic Enhances Fan Experience

SILVIS, IL
The John Deere Classic has been busy upgrading the fan experience for this year’s tournament, Aug. 8-14, at TPC Deere Run.

This year’s focus has been on the Family Zone, an air-conditioned facility where parents can take their children for some interactivity and off-course noise-making.

New to the Family Zone this year:
  • Long drive simulator
  • Closest to the Pin simulator
  • Long Putt contest
  • First Tee Area with SNAG Golf components for beginners
  • Mini-golf
  • Trivia kiosk that will test fans’ knowledge of tournament history

Although last year’s champion Jordan Spieth may not play in the John Deere Classic – he has indicated he may compete in the Olympics as a member of the U.S. golf team - his presence will be felt when Jordan Spieth bobble heads are distributed to the youngsters on Youth Day, Tuesday, Aug. 9.

This will be the second time Spieth will be honored with a John Deere Classic bobble head, the first coming in 2014, the year after his watershed 2013 victory.  It’s the fifth straight year the tournament is distributing bobble heads of the previous year’s champion on Youth Day.

First Tee graduate Scott Langley, who played college golf at Illinois, will conduct the annual Youth Clinic at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the TPC Deere Run practice range.

In anticipation of possible hot weather in August, the tournament will introduce free water re-fill stations, which will be located behind the clubhouse and near the driving range.

Another respite from the heat will be athletic-style cooling benches, which were introduced last year, also will be located around well-traveled areas around the course to reduce core body temperature

With its tree-lined fairways, TPC Deere Run also offers a natural respite from the sun: shade.

Next year, the John Deere Classic returns to its traditional dates, July 10-16, the week before the Open Championship.
